Welcome to Colinton Surgery
Colinton Surgery was first established by Dr Heriott, practising from 24 Dreghorn Loan in the early 1900’s and moved to the current premises in 1986 (extended 1997).
The practice provides healthcare to approximately 11,600 patients.
With patients’ needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain access to the information you need.
Making an appointment with a GP
In an attempt to limit your exposure to COVID-19, telephone consultations have become the new norm.
If you require a consultation with a GP this will begin with the receptionist taking your details, a brief description of your problem and then the clinician will call you back. Sometimes the receptionist may recognise that your problem may be better dealt with by a clinician other than a GP and should this be the case they will signpost you accordingly. Face to face appointments continue to be offered by the clinician if felt to be necessary but only after a consultation on the telephone.
In order to manage demand, appointments for the GP are now on the day only, with appointments being released at 8am every day. Please therefore phone early to ensure you receive an appointment.
To ensure care can be provided to those most in need as efficiently as possible, before booking an appointment please always consider whether your problem could be managed in a different way. NHS inform contains a wealth of information about managing common medical conditions.
Our local pharmacies provide a minor ailments service which deals with many common conditions.
Please note that ALL eye problems should be directed to an optician and not a GP.
Similarly ALL dental problems should be directed to the dentist and not a GP.
Due to increasing demand at the practice if you require clinical advice please contact the practice as early in the day as possible. Any calls that are not medically urgent, received after 16.45 will be advised to call back the following working day. Similarly once all the ‘on the day’ appointments have been taken any calls that are not medically urgent will be advised to call back the following working day.
Text messaging service
Using text messages to contact you is increasingly important to the way in which we are now working. We would very much appreciate if you would consider signing up for this service. Further information is available here.
Flu vaccinations 2020
Due to restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, flu vaccinations are being delivered in a different way this year. Full details are available here.
Please note the last opportunity to attend the drive through clinics is this weekend. Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October 2020.
Sending images to the practice
If you have arranged a telephone consultation with the Practice to discuss a rash, wound or the symptom is visible it can be very helpful to the clinician to see a photograph of the problem. For further details please click here.
Attending the practice in person
We have many frail patients attending the practice to whom COVID-19 could prove fatal. To help protect these patients if you attend the practice in person it is vitally important you adhere to the following rules:
- Do not enter the building if you are suffering from a new or persistent cough, fever or loss of taste. (If suffering from these symptoms please phone 111).
- Do not enter the building if you have been advised to quarantine.
- Wear a face covering if attending the surgery.
- Adhere to the 2metre distancing wherever possible whilst in the Practice
- Only enter the building if absolutely necessary.
- Attend your appointments alone where possible (to limit exposure to COVID-19 for both your loved one and for our team).
